How to clean a well
Simply
bleach
the well, using the following procedure:
- Open the well and:
if it is a surface well pour down four liters of bleach for
each ten feet of water (three meters).
if it is an artesian well, pour down one liter of bleach for
each 100 feet of water(or per 100 gallons, one foot=one
gallon).Let the bleach flow down the metal sides of the
artesian well. Spay
the sides with a hose.
- Mix the bleach with the
water of the well. You can use a hose that let the water
flow back to the well to do the mixing.
- Once mixed, open all
the cold water taps in the house until you can smell the
bleach.
- Shut down the taps and let
the bleach in the pipes for at least 12 hours.
- After at least 12
hours, let the water flow from an external tap until the
smell of bleach disappears. It is preferable to avoid letting
this sizeable quantity of bleached water ending in your
septic tank as it could kill bacteria which contribute to its
proper functionning.
- Open all cold water taps in
the house and let the water flow until the smell of bleach
disappears.
- Make sure that there
is no rotting organic matter around your well.
