Our Story

The APLG’s History

In 1968, shortly after the government put land along the west side of the lake up for sale, the new residents decided that it would be a good idea to create a property owners’ association. This decision makes the APLG one of the oldest associations still active in Quebec. At the time, there were close to a hundred cottages around the lake. In the founding documents, dated September 1, 1968, the founders, who seemed to be true visionaries, defined the association’s sole objective as preventing pollution in the lake.
Over the years, the APLG has been very involved in implementing and monitoring measures to improve lake water quality, opposing commercial zoning projects and following forestry and transportation issues. More recently, the APLG has worked on issues relating to navigation, the threatened arrival of the mining industry, the prevention of invasive species and the creation of protected areas. The APLG was also instrumental in the creation of the Regroupement de Protection des lacs de la Petite-Nation.
First and foremost, what has been and continues to be the APLG’s greatest strength is its membership, which always ranged between 350 and 400 members, as well as the vast number of volunteers who get involved in its activities. These people are all committed to preserving the lake so that it continues to be a special place for all to enjoy.
