A New System for Measuring the Lake Level

The water level page has always been the most visited page on our website. Whether it’s in the spring when the water is high, when it’s time to put the docks in the water, or during flash floods like those we experienced last summer, we always see a significant increase in traffic on this very useful page.
The APLG first started measuring the water level in 2013, when André Brossard installed a ruler on the St-Hilaire boat-house and for several years only visual measurements were taken. Jay Tardif then built a system based on a callibrated air column measurement and was used for many years until Jay sold his cottage and gave us the equipment. We were about to reinstall it, when we were contacted by Marc L. Dufour, who had devised a system based on pressure sensors installed in the lake. We tested it over a few weeks and the results were surprising. Not only were they accurate, but we had constant readings, every minute. Olivier Bodard, our webmaster, programmed the measurements to appear automatically on the website, which you’ve been seeing since last December. Olivier has also included the dates when the lake froze and thawedin the graph.
As you can see, there are some pretty talented people around this lake.

Many thanks to Marc and Olivier.
