Construction and Permits

Do I need a permit?

Before starting any work, check if a permit or certificate of authorization is required:

Examples of work that requires a permit:

  • Interior renovations (basement, adding rooms)
  • Addition or construction of a main building (house, cottage, garage)
  • Installation of a swimming pool, spa, dock, or fence
  • Tree removal or opening up a lake access

Always consult the Urban Planning Department before starting any work.

Construction of a Main Building

  • Only one main building is permitted per lot.
  • There is a minimum and maximum area requirement.
  • Exterior finishing must be completed within 12 months of permit issuance.
  • Respect for the shoreline buffer zone

Accessory Buildings (sheds, garages, pools, spas, fences)

  • A main building must exist before adding an accessory building.
  • A trailer, container, or bus cannot serve as an accessory building.
  • A minimum distance between buildings must be observed.
  • In the shoreline zone: no accessory building within 20 m of the lake (except for exceptions such as a dock).
  • Pools/spas: only one spa per lot; water must not be discharged into the lake.
