Freeze/thaw statistics
This page presents freeze and thaw statistics for the lake, compiled by the APLG since 1968. The data have been collected over the years by dedicated volunteers using on-site observations and shared reference points. While these records are not based on a formal scientific methodology, their strength lies in the long time span and the volume of data available, which together provide a meaningful perspective on seasonal patterns and potential long-term trends.
The freeze date corresponds to a complete freeze of the lake, typically observed in its widest section. Conversely, the thaw date represents a complete ice breakup, usually ending in smaller bays. When interpreted with appropriate caution, these statistics offer useful insights into local climate evolution and changes affecting the lake over time.
