The start of the 2026 fishing season has finally arrived—even though the lake is still frozen! Fishing for salmonids, such as lake trout and landlocked salmon, opens today, April 23. Several other species will also open in May and June.
A quick reminder: the catch limit for lake trout has been reduced to a single fish measuring 55 cm or more.
Don’t forget to fill out the Angler’s Logbook during your outings, even if you didn’t catch anything. All the data collected is useful. With the ministry’s help, it allows us to get an overall picture of the health of fishing on Lac Gagnon. Rest assured, we’re not trying to find your favourite fishing spots.
