Almost everyone in Duhamel now knows that August 31 is THE important date to voice opposition to the mining project by voting in the referendum.
What is perhaps less well known is that August 1 is just as important. Wanting to vote is good, but you still have to be registered, and August 1 is the deadline for registering on the electoral list that will allow you to do so.
The municipality recently mailed a letter to nearly 700 people whose primary residence is not in Duhamel and who are not registered on the electoral list. This letter included a form to fill out with instructions.
If you received this letter and intend to vote, it is extremely important that you fill out the form and return it to the municipality as soon as possible. If you did not receive this letter, it means you are already registered. If you have received it, we urge you to respond quickly.
The movement is gaining momentum. In addition to the business community in Petite-Nation, which has already supported us, the Association des chasseurs, pêcheurs et trappeurs de la Petite-Nation (ACPTA) and the Club Quad Petite-Nation have just joined our list of supporters.
Three municipalities in Lanaudière, which are grappling with a mining project, are following our case closely and are also considering holding a referendum next year.
The Montréal and Ottawa media are closely monitoring the situation, and articles and reports have already been published or will be.
The key to all this is your participation in the vote. A clear message requires a high turnout and an indisputable result.
So, first of all, we are counting on you to make sure you are registered now and, secondly, to send the clearest possible message on August 31.
Please note that an information session hosted by the Alliance des municipalités de la Petite-Nation Nord will be held this Sunday July 20 at 10 a.m. at the Duhamel municipal building. You will learn all the details about the upcoming referendum. Since Lomiko Metals has not formed a YES committee, the positions for or against the project will not be debated. However, this is an information session not to be missed!
